A sense of place--the experience that an individual fits with a place--is a powerful force in building and reinforcing image and in recruiting and retaining students, faculty, and staff. Describes the components of a place-making study and its value. Defines basic types of place-making by objectives (fundamental facilities management, enrich personal and social context, enrich physical setting) and lists design elements that meet these goals.
