Profile of APPA's 1997-98 President, Pieter J. van der Have, who has worked for the University of Utah for 35 years, beginning as a general helper in carpentry and moving up to his current position as director of plant operations.  Reviews his association with APPA, his emphasis on making better use of limited resources, and his observations on how technological advances have changed the facilities industry.  Van der Have assumed the APPA presidency under tragic circumstances following the July 1997 death of President-Elect Tom Vacha.
