Discusses the benefits of commissioning through case study of Bowdoin College's new Druckenmiller Science Hall. In commissioning every component of the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system was physically checked to make certain that it worked as designed and, when problems were found, responsibility for correcting them was assigned and components were rechecked to verify correction. Describes commissioning process, testing procedures, safety issues, energy efficiency, and how benefits outweigh the costs.
