Newly constructed buildings are designed to be extremely energy efficient to meet current building and energy codes, but meeting these code requirements does not optimize the building’s energy sustainability. The purpose of this article is to provide facility managers tools to help optimize the energy efficiency of buildings over the entire life cycle consisting of predesign, design, construction, initial occupancy, and post-occupancy.
