The next big opportunity to enhance productivy in facilities maintenance is to eliminate, or at least minimize, manual transcription of data to the computer by using bar coding. Describes bar coding as record keeping instrument; how the University of Washington, Seattle set up their pilot program; and the completed program which assigns bar coded IDs to all projects, employees, and nearly all parts.
