Report of the University of Iowa's Effective & Innovative Practices award-winning activities. Describes the university's Route 66, a comprehensive safety program which was launched when the department was grappling with higher-than-industry-average rates of OSHA recordable injuries, lost work days, worker's compensation, and disability claims. The program uses an online scorecard to a virtual map of Route 66 to track progress toward safety goals, with each shop having its own scorecard but sharing the same map. Celebrations were held when shops arrived at the midpoint and end of the entire route. Among other results, OSHA recordable injuries have dropped by 33 percent.  Includes photo of staff members receiving their award check at the APPA 2007 meeting in Baltimore, Maryland in July.
