Describes new requirements for "critical operations power systems," which will appear in the 2008 National Electric Code; Article 585 is the work of a new NEC technical panel and will appear in Chapter 5 of the NEC--the Special Occupancy chapter--where installation requirements for healthcare facilities, places of assembly, also appear.  The implications of Article 585 should be considered in programming emergency and standby power sources. Details noteworthy features of Article 585 of interest to higher facilities managers. With the NEC available for public use as early as October 2007, recommends actions to assess your current status in regard to the regulations.  Includes references.
