"2006 Effective & Innovative Practices Award Winners Show Imagination and Practical Solutions /  Brown University: Safety Fair"
Author: Weaver, Carl O.
Published In: Facilities Manager
Date: September/October 2006

In order to revive what had become an admittedly boring safety training program for Facilities Management Department employees, Brown University instituted a safety fair with the aid of the Environmental Health & Safety Department, college insurer, and safety equipment vendors.  Employees visit ten tables each featuring an expert on a particular topic, such as working in extreme temperatures and power and handtool safety.  The fair has saved work hours by consolidating the training and increased retention of information by presenting it in an interesting and fun environment. Details institutional benefits, innovation and creativity, portability and sustainability, management commitment and employee involvement, and documentation, analysis, customer input, and benchmarking.  Includes table on the various training stations and the companies providing the training.
