Discusses campuses which have been identified as works of art by T.A. Gaines in The Campus as a Work of Art and have received Medallion awards through the American Society of Landscape Architects. Detailed research study on operation and maintenance expenditures by these campuses, particularly in light of the trend to cut costs. Concludes what makes a campus a "work of art" or award winner does not appear to be reflected in what they spend on O&M. Reviews study methodology; data collection, analysis, and results; identifies study institutions, and includes figures comparing results by institutional type.
