Library buildings are a rare blend of environments: storage space much like museum storage, and staff and user space that must provide people with a comfortable environment. Because books and people usually share space, libraries present particular challenges to creating proper environment. Discusses collection deterioration, environmental agents' role in this deterioration, maintaining the environment, housekeeping, insects, mold, and preservation concerns.
