"Some Thoughts on Leadership"
Author: Jenkins, Charles W.
Published In: Perspectives on Leadership in Facilities Management
Date: 1995

A common thread in various definitions of leadership is that leaders are different from managers, with different behaviors and responsibilities.  Provides examples of leadership as shown in war stories.  Discusses customer and staff surveys as a means of inviting change.  Includes classic 1829 letter from Martin Van Buren to President Andrew Jackson, arguing that the canal system must be preserved because railroads were too dangerous and were "scaring the livestock and frightening women and children" as an example of a status quo defender wanting to block progress.
