To identify what needs to be benchmarked, it is important to concentrate on a few areas. Benchmarking is not collecting a set of numbers or the act of copying others. Outlines basics of continuous improvement, steps for developing a measurement process, and the benchmark process. A more detailed ten-step benchmarking process is presented in Appendix C.
