Natural gas represents roughly one-fourth of the energy used in the U.S. and is a more desirable primary fuel because it emits lower levels of nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide with practically no sulfur dioxide, particulate, or ash.  Discusses natural gas usage in the past, restructuring of natural gas, reasons behind year 2000 price hikes, and future prospects, including the stabilization of prices by summer 2001.
