Author: Rose, Rodney, with David A. Cain, Ph.D.; James J. Dempsey, P.E.; and Rich Schneider
Published In: Buildings. . . The Gifts That Keep on Taking. A Framework for Integrated Decision Making
Date: 2007

A conceptual framework is important for any asset investment strategy, with the context defined by the basic mission and vision of the organization. Describes three perspectives which are essential for determining an effective asset investment strategy: a business case analysis, a financial and budget analysis, and an economic or total cost of ownership analysis. Provides real-life scenarios to illustrate concepts. Concludes that an asset investment strategy developed and refined using these three perspectives will establish a sustainable, mission-based, and affordable strategy that will greatly enhance and simplify an institution's integrated decision making. Includes graphs and charts.
