"Preface"
Author: Ahoy, Christopher K.
Published In: Leadership in Educational Facilities Administration
Date: 2007

Ahoy traces the genesis of the book to an interview conducted by Stacey Meyer, vice president of Gary Kaplan & Associates, with him, Richard Mann, and Jack Hug, which resulted in the article, "The Right Stuff: Making the Leap to Executive Positions Doesn't Have To Be An Extreme Sport," published in Today's Facilities Manager.  Among the questions he asked himself as he thought about a book on leadership in educational facilities administration, were "Where does all the leadership in educational facilities administration originate?" and "How do facilities management organizations develop their leaders to fill the FM leadership pipeline?" Reviews the impetus for this book, including the need for new facilities leaders as members of the Silent and Baby Boomer generations retire.  Notes that the story of his own 12-year in-progress journey as associate vice president for facilities at Iowa State University is woven throughout the book.
