"Resolving IQA Problems in a New University Library"
Author: Kiernan, Aidan E.
Published In: Proceedings of the 1990 Educational Conference
Date: 1990

Presentation at APPA's 77th Annual Meeting in Ottawa, Canada.  Describes the design and construction of the Queen Elizabeth II Library at Memorial University of Newfoundland, designed as a tight, fully climate controlled building with no operable windows because of the collection's conservation needs. At the same time the oil crisis was spurring on new advances in building systems to effect more energy conservation and accordingly it was decided to incorporate the latest suitable technology in this regard.  Covers the building's climate control systems for heating and cooling, realization of the air quality problems in the new building, consultant's report and how problems could be resolved, and how the situation has impacted future design decisions at the university.
