"Implementing an Environmentally Safe Chilled Water System"

Presentation at APPA's 79th Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana. The effect of the Montreal Protocol and its subsequent amendments has serious implications to managers of large facilities such as colleges and universities. Describes the efforts at Illinois State University, including the planned replacement of electric chillers using R-11 refrigerant with chillers using R-22 refrigerant. While R-22 is scheduled for depletion by 2020, the purchased equipment will work efficiently with other existing refrigerants that do not affect the ozone layer, allowing the university to replace its equipment in a coherent fashion addressing maintenance needs while keeping existing R-11 units operational.
