Presentation at APPA's 80th Annual Meeting in St. Louis, Missouri. Discusses the "management by choice" management style at Maryville University. Under this system, employees who have the appropriate knowledge for a task are expected to form as team leaders to keep the work progressing in a linear fashion; when they are no longer needed, they become subservient to the next leader for the newest project. Describes the program's components, how to institute a similar program, its emphasis on peer reinforcement, recommendations on what works and what doesn't in this program, training, setting goals, and measuring its impact.
