As the Smithsonian Institution Office of Plant Services changes to becomes more responsive to customers and adapts to increased expectations with decreased resources, supervision has been focused on as one of the most critical links between front-line employees and senior management in achieving organizational goals and assuring staff are treated as the department's most valuable contributors. Discusses challenges of transitioning from technician to supervisor, needs assessment to help redefine supervision, linking supervision with success, measuring supervisory performance, supervisory culture, diffusing anger, customer service, and internal communication.
