POSTION FUNCTION SUMMARY:

This is an administrative management position responsible for coordinating, planning, organizing, and directing the area residential facilities functions for the Health Sciences Campus and facilities support functions with the facilities unit of University Housing. Support functions include technical trades, work control, administrative support and training support. Technical trades include locksmiths, HVAC technicians and electricians.  This position shall aid in the development and vision of the team and efficiency improvements to serve over 8,000 residents. This includes training and providing career growth to staff, ensuring efficient and accurate communications within the department and ensuring efficient and accurate 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 4 years of experience in lieu of the bachelor’s degree.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant experience, Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of relevant experience or career military service with significant leadership and operational responsibilities.
  2. Experience directly managing facilities operations, maintenance or building services.
  3. Experience with the collegiate residential experience.

The University of Maryland, College Park is a Top 20 research university and the flagship university of the University of Maryland System. The Department of Residential Facilities provides the principal facilities management services for the 2.2 million square feet of undergraduate residence halls in 50+ buildings, 21 fraternity/sorority buildings, and 313,000 square feet of recreation facilities in three buildings on the campus of the University of Maryland System. The FY 2020 Residential Facilities budget exceeded $54.1 million and represents 275 full time employees.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Director provides overall leadership of Project Management and Construction projects within the department.  The position oversees the planning, management and execution of a diverse set of building, infrastructure, life safety and site projects.  Through supervision/leadership of section staff, the incumbent is required to ensure:

  • building conditions/problems are properly evaluated,
  • long term maintenance and project priorities and budgets are established,
  • project/maintenance schedules are coordinated with building occupancies,
  • project requirements and specifications are well written and clearly communicated,
  • projects are well coordinated with other involved campus agencies/departments, and projects are completed on-schedule, within budget, and within developed quality standards. 

The position also assists with the department’s management of the capital building renovation program for the campus’ fraternities/sororities and residence halls along with other Student Affairs projects and priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education - Bachelors degree, preferably in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.  

Experience and Skills – At least ten years directing facilities project management and/or construction, with experience managing projects of similar type, size and scope.  At least 5 years’ supervisory experience directing Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents or similar professionals. Experience must include demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience of staff, and the direct and independent responsibility for the investigation and resolution of a wide range of facilities capital and maintenance issues. Experience must include the management of building restoration, building systems, retrofit and large scale capital building renovation and new construction projects. Strong communication skills, knowledge of MS Word and Excel are required. Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Salary and Benefits: Salary starting around $120,000.  Position gets 22 days of annual/vacation leave, 14 paid holidays and 15 days of sick leave provided annually.  Tuition remission up to 8 credits per semester.  Eligibility to participate in group health insurance, prescription drug, life insurance and retirement programs.

Job Summary

Essential Functions               
Performs architectural design functions by preparing schematics, working drawings, and specifications for projects of a complex nature. Coordinates projects to include scheduling, budgeting, monitoring cost and resolving client issues. Selects and manages the services of architects, engineers, and consultants. Performs periodic construction inspections and prepares and distributes reports to appropriate personnel. Level V: requires a B.S. in Architecture or closely related field, licensure as an Architect in the state of Alabama, and 3 years of progressive architecture experience as a Licensed Architect. Experience must include at least 3 years at the preceding level or equivalent.

Salary Range: $59,700 – $99,600

Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed.

Senior Mechanical Engineer
University of Georgia

This position reports directly to the Engineering Director. Responsible for work in design, development, and alteration and repair of existing UGA campus buildings. Responsible for supervising others in plan, design, and estimates of various projects. Assignments are varied and applicant is expected to have a wide range of project experience in mechanical and plumbing areas. Applicant is expected to make technical decisions and to exercise considerable initiative and creativity within the scope of policy directives.

This position regularly interacts with FMD senior management and other staff members. The position also works closely with stakeholders throughout campus and outside consultants, contractors, and vendors. This position has a high degree of autonomy in decision making. This individual has a high impact on the operations. Serves as in-house expert support FMD shops, provides quality mechanical designs, and assists customers throughout campus, decisions and actions impact the infrastructure of UGA. Knowledge and experience in modern building alteration and construction methods and materials and preparation of estimates, specifications is required. Also knowledgeable in the following areas:

 

  • The principles and methods of surveying and inspecting sites and buildings preparatory  to planning and design proposed alterations
  • Ability to review, analyze and make recommendations regarding designs, plans and specifications
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of technical and professional subordinates
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Computer aided design (AutoCAD 2010 or later), Revit 2018 and later and other design software
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC Controls and the ability to prepare schematic control diagrams, I/O summaries and sequences of operation and to understand P&IDs.

Design, draw, and detail in-house renovation projects of mechanical systems for execution by outside contractors and/or university staff. Typical projects include renovations of laboratory spaces, replacement of chillers, boilers, pumps, etc. Provide Engineering support to O&M including trouble shooting and analysis of existing infrastructure (chiller plants, steam, and air-distribution).

Manage contracted design professionals. Effort includes negotiation of fees, creation of scope, review of submitted reports and construction documents, resolution of construction related issues and review payment requests. Review OUA projects posted to Bluebeam for review.

Execute construction administration activities including inspections, submittal reviews, RFI responses, etc. Supervision of Junior Mechanical engineers and designers. Includes task assignment, review work products, annual performance evaluation. Promote employee development and accountability.

This position is required to be registered as a certified mechanical engineer with the state of Georgia.
