Director of Facilities and Sustainability

 Full Time, Non-Classified, Exempt, Benefits-Eligible Position 

Position Overview:  Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Finance, the Director of Facilities and Sustainability provides strategic leadership and professional direction for facilities-related functions at institutions, including facilities management, capital planning, project management, design and construction. The Director of Facilities and Sustainability is charged with articulating a vision for facilities management, developing a plan for that vision (while ensuring that vision aligns with the Commissions overall mission), and implementing the plan. The Director provides leadership, knowledge, and expertise to sustain and support the building environment and to deliver student-focused services and solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, revise and update capital project and facilities management policies and procedures.  Provide policy and procedural advice to the Chancellor, Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration and the Vice Chancellor for Finance on capital projects and facilities maintenance.  Assists in the system-wide oversight of these areas.
  • Provides policy and procedural advice to institutional Presidents, Vice Presidents for Administration, and Physical Plant Directors on capital project management and facilities management.
  • Oversee the development of the systems’ facility plans including the accumulation of capacity utilization and capital needs data. 
  • Interacts with the West Virginia Department of Administration, Contractors Association of West Virginia, West Virginia Society of Architects and other stakeholders regarding facilities and capital project issues.
  • Coordinate preparation for approval and presents the Higher Education Policy Commission’s capital project priorities to LOCEA (the Legislative Oversight Commission on Education Accountability), as required by law.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

The successful candidate will possess attention to detail, ability to manage competing demands, and work independently. Additionally, the candidate will be able to establish good working relationships with external stakeholders, as well as possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge of energy and sustainability programs as well as the principles of facilities planning, construction and maintenance.

Salary Range:  Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.

Education and experience:  An accredited Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or a related field is required. Five years of relevant work experience is required. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification is required. 

Related experience in higher education is preferred.  Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or related field is preferred. 

However, any requisite combination of education and experience will be considered.

District Energy System Engineer – Level 1

 

Columbia University is seeking District Energy System operators. Come join our award-winning team, which provides the University with electric power, chilled water, and high-pressure steam across the Manhattanville campus. The District Energy System operator holds two licenses: NYC High Pressure Stationary Engineer and NYC Refrigeration Engineer. We are looking for experienced District Energy System operators, who provide technical oversight to maintain a safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-optimal operation. This role is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the District Energy System, which includes a 6,000-ton refrigeration plant, and electric and steam turbine-driven compressors, as well as a duel-fuel-fired water tube boiler plant at 150 psi operating pressure. (The normal electric power service is supplied from Con Edison.)

 

Requirements:

· HS diploma or GED required

· NYC High Pressure Stationary Engineer’s License

· NYC Refrigeration Engineer’s License

· 6 years of experience in power plant maintenance, repair, and operation with required licenses and certifications

· 5 years of experience operating a high-pressure boiler under own active NYC High Pressure Stationary Engineer’s License

· 5 years of experience operating a chiller under own active NYC Refrigeration Engineer’s License

Architect/Project Manager
Salisbury University

Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 58 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Located on the historic Eastern Shore, SU's beautiful campus is some 30 miles from the Atlantic beaches and 2.5 hours from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Architect/Project Manager.

Primary Job Duties: Manage or assist with management of Capital and System funded construction, renovation and maintenance projects.  Create construction bid document package for building and campus upgrades necessary to maintain 70+ buildings.  Perform architectural design and construction administration duties for a broad array of campus projects.  Campus planning including but not limited to space planning to devise plans for back filling spaces when vacated.  Develop concepts and cost estimates for renovating or creating new facilities.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field and 5-7 years of related experience.

Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral & written communication skills. Also, must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required. Must be able to design in AutoCAD.

Preferred Qualifications:  AIA or PE license preferred.

Mechanical Engineer (Facilities)

Primary Job Duties: Provide design and construction administration services for a host of annual projects to include HVAC, plumbing and fire protection design; develop and prepare construction and bid documents for mechanical systems across the campus; Project Management for work designed internally and externally for renovation and new work; may provide assistance to maintenance staff in resolving maintenance problems and conduct periodic code and technology research.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 5-7 years of related experience to include Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC).

Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral & written communication skills. Also, must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required. Must have detailed knowledge of HVAC industry and be able to produce specifications for bid purposes. Must be able to design in AutoCAD.
