Building Engineer / Electrical Maintenance
Sidwell Friends School

Sidwell Friends, a coeducational, PK-12 Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC and Bethesda, MD, seeks a full-time Building Engineer. The position is based on our D.C. campus but will also be required to be present on our Bethesda, MD campus a few days throughout the week. The Building Engineer is responsible for the daily physical campus maintenance which includes but is not limited to monitoring, maintaining, adjusting and repairing all building electrical systems and equipment to allow for the safe and smooth operation of all school buildings, across both campuses.

The ideal candidate will possess a developed and demonstrated expertise in the electrical building trade. Electrical work may include but is not limited to installing, modifying or repairing electrical circuits and related equipment, as well as monitoring fire alarm controls and equipment for proper operation, repairing or replacing wiring, lighting or power fixtures, worn or bad switches, wiring, relays, outlets, etc. Ability to read blueprints and adhere to the National Electric Code is essential.

Other duties include but are not limited to helping with snow removal, shelving, play/theater props, physical education equipment, assisting with periodic safety drills, etc. The ideal candidate will also make preparations for the many events held on the campus, including set up and break downs.

Must have at least 5 years of hands-on experience in the electrical trade. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience with leading basic maintenance projects, developing and writing scope of work, schedule and budget, using basic MS Office suite software and maintaining database of project information. Ability to work within a team with a strong customer service orientation and relationship building is required. Should have a working knowledge of safety procedures for working with electricity, moving parts and ladders as well as the ability to understand blueprints, schematics and technical manuals.

This 12-month, non-exempt full-time position is benefits eligible and begins in August 2020.
