Job Overview
Direct all administrative and operational activities of the Department of Environmental Health & Safety.

Essential Functions

  • Initiate policy; develop, implement and direct a comprehensive environmental health & safety operations program for the University of Cincinnati.
  • Advise the university administration on matters of potential liability and act as liaison with outside government agencies.
  • Inspect property for potential safety hazards and recommend improvements; supervise the investigation of accidents to determine cause, recommend corrective action, and coordinate university's response to external regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance of institutional operations with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Keep abreast of federal and state of Ohio laws and statues governing compliance.
  • Manage financial planning operations to ensure a stable and balanced financial performance.
  • Monitor and evaluate health & safety programs for cost-effectiveness.
  • Train and instruct support staff on methods and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of environmental regulations and their impact on the current and future facility.
  • Prepare necessary statistics and reports.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree must be in technical science, engineering, or related science field

Required Trainings/Certifications
Professional certification in one or more Environmental Health & Safety fields.

Required Experience
Seven (7) years of work experience in safety program including building and safety codes.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Physical Plant, the Director of Physical Plant Operations and Maintenance is responsible for leadership in facilities staff operations, unit budget and financial statement review, unit expenditures review, contracts and vendor relations, staff success, strategic planning, effective and efficient service, and supervisory authority.

  • Manages and provides leadership for assigned facilities staff operations by prioritizing project work, ensuring supply inventory is maintained, and making routine inspections to ensure effective and efficient facilities services
  • Monitors unit budget and processes invoices to ensure correct account designations, correct authorizations, fiscal accountability, and responsibility
  • Tracks project expenditures by costs for labor, materials, and vehicles to ensure project cost effectiveness and timeliness
  • Contacts and communicates with contractors and vendors as needed to deliver the most cost effective services that meet campus needs
  • Assists staff as needed to contribute to efficient physical plant operations
  • Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes department objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources in alignment with the strategic plan

The Executive Director of Operations and Maintenance guides strategic direction and fosters a culture of excellence among employees. The Grounds & Athletic Turf Manager will maintain the campus grounds in accordance with the Grounds Standards Manual and be responsible for athletic turf management.  This position may assist the grounds department when appropriate.  This is an exempt, 12-month, full-time position reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Physical Facilities. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·       Must be proficient at using a variety of tools including mowers, small tractors, athletic field prep equipment, hand tools such as shovels, rakes and pruners, as well as power tools such as blowers;

·       Must be able to operate snow removal equipment, such as utility cart with snow blade;

·       Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE);

·       Working in heat and cold environments regularly;

·       Possess the ability to grip things 45 pounds minimum;

·       Coordinate painting for all competition and practice fields;

·       Point of contact with coaching staff to ensure that practice and game setups are completed on time;

·       Responsible for formulating fertilizing schedule and practices to identify and treat turf grass insects and diseases that could damage the athletic turf;

·       Regularly walking long distances;

·       Climbing stairs without assistance;

·       Regularly lifting and carrying 50 pounds;

·       Pushing and pulling machines weighing 80 pounds;

QUALIFICATIONS:

A High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required; minimum 2 years’ athletic field prep maintenance experience preferred. The successful candidate must be able to regularly lift and carry 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations.  Experience with irrigation systems is preferred. Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills is preferred. Ability to adapt to quickly changing environments, and excellent organizational and multitasking skills will serve the candidate well in this role. Post offer functional testing is required. Some weekend work will be required in accordance with competition schedules.

The Associate Vice Chancellor of Design and Construction Management leads the planning and delivery of UC Davis’s complex capital program estimated at $1.5 Billion over the next 10 years. A top-ranked public institution, UC Davis relies on the AVC to have expertise in architecture, construction management, building inspecting and permitting, engineering, space master planning, capital financial planning, campus and environmental planning, sustainability, and real estate. With these subject-matter expertise and breadth of experiences at similarly largely and complex organizations, the AVC guides UC Davis’s executive leadership team to ensure decisions align with the university’s priorities and policies. The AVC must have a successful track-record of establishing and attaining project timelines and budgets and improving processes. Department Description

  • Professional licensure as an architect or engineer is preferred.  
  • A master’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience examining and implementing methods for improved business processes, such as experience with LEAN six sigma.

 

Position Information

  • Salary or Pay Range: $160,700 - $388,700 annually
  • Hybrid/Remote/On-Site: On-site with some work from home office opportunity
