This position is responsible for assisting the Grainger College of Engineering’s Director of Facilities in the following key areas: efforts of improving the quality and addressing facility needs of the academic departments and independent research units; in representing and advocating the Grainger College of Engineering’s interests in various types of initiatives, construction projects, and facility matters and management; in addressing both the operational and strategic facilities needs of the college; and assisting PIs and Units in their research and teaching missions by enabling the creation and maintenance of the core infrastructure needed to realize these missions in a timely and cost effective manner.

Positions in this banded class manage a major division of a university facilities operation of considerable scope and complexity. They oversee all technical services provided by staff, organize and plan work, supervise the work and career development of staff, manage the facilities budget, and participate in strategic planning. Positions in this banded class report to a higher level facilities administrator.

 

Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position

Knowledge-Professional – Thorough knowledge of technical area of assignment; thorough knowledge of university facilities practices and procedures; considerable knowledge of the business structure and human resources management.

Planning & Organizing Work – Ability to develop plans to accomplish work operations and short-range goals and objectives. Ability to participate in planning strategies to meet long-range goals and objectives. Ability to arrange and assign work to use resources efficiently. Ability to coordinate all administrative and technical services provided. Ability to participate in planning and implements changes in operations. Facilities Development and Management, Grounds Services, seeks a Groundskeeper Specialist (Mapping Technician) to field locate and digitally map landscape features and assets that would include but not be limited to turf areas, planting beds, trees, irrigation controllers, components, main lines, and hydrozones, and outdoor furnishings.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of grounds maintenance experience, OR, Associate Degree in Horticulture or related field e.g. Golf Course Management, Sports Turf Management, Landscape Construction; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved; AND possess and maintain One (1) Grounds certification or equivalent e.g. Arizona Pest Application License, Certified Arborist from International Society of Arboriculture, Certified Grounds Technician from PGMS, Passed Desert Landscaper School from the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden. Employee may be required to possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

 

Desired Qualifications

Two (2) years of digital mapping experience utilizing Google Earth and/or ArcGIS.

One (1) year of experience operating various brands of irrigation controllers.

 

Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Local tree species and characteristics
  • Irrigation systems and components

Manager - Energy Efficiency

Overview

St. Jude is always looking for new ways to conserve our donor dollars, so we can put more funds into our mission of finding cures and saving children. One way we can do that is to sustainably reduce energy and energy-related costs throughout our institution's buildings. We're particulary interested in individuals who have designed and implemented energy programs that have increased efficiency and reduced energy-related costs.
We have an ambitious strategic plan over the next five years and we need a Manager of Energy Efficiency to help lead our facilities operations and maintenance team into the future.  
 

Responsibilities

The Manager of Energy Efficiency provides leadership in planning and implementing St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (SJCRH) strategic initiatives and operations relative to utilities and energy management.

This position will focus on the following:

  • Optimization of plant operations
  • Fiscal stewardship
  • Enterprise management
  • Leading a team to achieve measurable bottom-line results and successes in energy conservation, management, and sustainability

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Architecture or related field required.

  • Ten (10) years of experience in progressively responsible positions, which include planning, design, and administration in facilities energy efficient planning, design, construction, or related industry.
  • Two (2) years of management and/or supervisory experience required.

Other Credentials

  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or equivalent required.

  Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

The incumbent must hold a professional degree in architecture or engineering. He/she shall possess an architectural license or be registered as a Professional Engineer, in North Carolina. Professional registration as an architect requires at least a professional degree in architecture, a minimum of three years of supervised experience in the employment of a practicing architect and the successful completion of the national architectural registration exam. Registration as a Professional Engineer requires a professional degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college or university, four years of direct design experience, and passing of a state administered National Council of Engineering Examiners (NCEE) exam.

Minimum of ten years’ experience in architectural or civil engineering design of buildings; a minimum of five years’ experience in the direct oversight of construction projects (may be concurrent with design experience) is required. Additional education coursework or degrees in management, computer applications, and communications are desirable.

  Primary Purpose of Position

The Director of Facilities Planning, Design and Construction is responsible for conducting facilities planning and directing capital construction activities at the university. This position is responsible for: (1) work with campus leadership as it relates to planning for new construction, renovations, space occupancy, inventory, and utilization; (2) the development of proposals detailing new construction plans; (3) the modification or improvement of existing facilities; (4) the coordination of selection of architects and consultants to perform designs for construction projects; and (5) for serving as liaison and overseer of construction contractors to ensure adherence to design and construction requirements.

Further, the incumbent will coordinate these projects with university units, the State Construction Office, the N.C. Department of Insurance, local and state approval agencies, and other offices. The incumbent will also be responsible for project cost estimating and budget control and will contribute to the formulation of the University biennium C.I. budget requests.
