Universities and colleges must develop detailed inventories of the outdoor grounds areas in order to maintain their exterior landscapes in a cost effective and sustainable manner. Provides an overview of the methodology used to develop the landscape maintenance database at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Discusses the walking survey of the locations and dimensions of turf, banked turf, shrub bed, flower bed, and hedge plots that was conducted over 45 days, with topographical maps marked to indicate what terrain occupied a given map plot. Describes various databases developed.
