Past hierarchical management structure is being replaced by downsized, less bureaucratic organization.  Reviews past, present, and emerging forms of organizational structure.  Describes steps in developing organizational structure: understanding facilities' mission in overall insitutional mission, reviewing comprehensive facilities management model, and maintaining customer orientation.  Reviews functions of the facilities management organization and such components as leadership, work management, planning, operations and maintenance, utilities, renovations, and custodial services.  Provides examples of the networking/spider web organization, flat organization, inverted organization, shamrock organization, and learning organization.
