Faced with cutbacks, the University of Michigan's Plant Building Services initially looked at outsourcing rather than continuing to use the University Stores. After researching prices of outside distributors they discovered that once all costs were factored in, the Univesity Stores' prices were competitive. Plant Building Services entered into an agreement with University Stores to receive the same services that outside distributors provided, such as increased technical support, warehouse management, and improved customer service. Describes the collaborative effort's arrangements and benefits. Includes chart and photo of participants.
