"Survey Shows Increased Sustainability Awareness"

Discusses the findings of the 2004 Reed Research Group and Building Design & Construction magazine online survey of education professionals on their opinions, perceptions, and actions regarding sustainability and "green" colleges and universities.  Facilities, design, and planning professionals in university settings were targeted, with APPA and SCUP members invited to participate. Forty two percent of the 513 respondents were from APPA.  Details findings, which revealed a high level of familiarity with green building terms and principles, with costs being the biggest barrier to acceptance in the university setting. Lists statements made by APPA members when asked if sustainably designed buildings can serve as teaching tool, a concept endorsed by nearly four-fifths of the respondents.
