Facility Asset Management column. Discusses the new strategic plan developed by the Kamehameha School in Hawaii, which included simultaneous construction of two new campuses on different islands over a five year period. Because the projects were designed and constructed simultaneously, the campus was able to negotiate architectural and design fees well below industry norms. Detailed campus-design standards for appearance and building systems also helped reduce costs. The campus is making plans for best practice facility stewardship complemented by the vision of keeping the new campuses in top performing order--a goal that is held by facility management and shared by faculty, staff, and students.
