"Return to the Tree of Hippocrates, A"
Author: Baker, Brooks H., III
Published In: Facilities Manager
Date: March/April 2004
Discusses the continuing value of The Decaying American Campus, a book published by APPA and NACUBO that described the state of facilities on American campuses. Describes how he was able to use the book on his own campus to raise awareness of deferred maintenance and increase funding. He used the example of the Tree of Hippocrates--a tree under which Hippocrates taught his students in 400 BC--to drive home the necessity of keeping facilities in good repair rather than having to return to Ancient Greece's teaching conditions.
