"Chapter 3: APPA's Four Core Competencies"
Author: Reynolds, Gary L.
Published In: Strategic Assessment Model, The, first edition
Date: 1999

Higher education facilities management requires technical skills and knowledge in diverse areas, as well as the ability to manage the resources and processes that support these activities.  APPA has identified four core competencies that encompass the broad range of facilities management oversight: general administration and management, maintenance and operations, energy and utility systems, and planning, design, and construction.  Describes each competency and how they can be combined with the Strategic Assessment Model criteria.  This approach is shown to ensure that the facilities manager has a tool that supports both the breadth and depth needed in the organization.
